Sugababes Forget Their Own Lyrics

Posted by audioman On June - 30 - 2009

The Sugababes left thousands of fans disappointed after they forgot the lyrics to their own songs.

The girl band had to apologise live on stage and said it was because they hadn’t played live together for a while.

The girls were playing to 5,000 people at the Kent County Cricket Club this weekend and during the 15-song gig, they forgot words to songs and were out of time during some numbers, including 2003 chart-topper ‘Hole in the Head’.

Some fans walked out after singer Heidi Range forgot the words to ‘Too Lost in You’, just six songs into the show.

She said: “This is what happens when we do it live.”

Keisha Buchanan added: “We are so sorry. We haven’t played live for a long time.”

Promoters at the stadium, which was just one-third full, even reduced the price of tickets to just £25 in a bid to boost the numbers.

Writing on her Twitter page, member Keisha Buchanan said: “We made so many mistakes. We had to start songs again and everything. It really has been a while.”

She added: “For us, it (the show) wasn’t that good because it’s been ages and we messed up A LOT. Ha! Ha! Ha!”

One fan said: “It was a bit of a joke really.”

“They look so polished on TV, but when it comes to singing live they are a bit crap.”

“They couldn’t even remember the words to some of their best known songs - it would have been better getting someone from the crowd up there, at least they know the words.”

Details Of Final Michael Jackson Video Emerge

Posted by audioman On June - 30 - 2009

Michael Jackson was reportedly working on an elaborate video project just two weeks before his untimely death last Thursday (June 25).

The pop star was said to have been filming scenes for the production, dubbed the ‘Dome Project’ at Culver Studios in Los Angeles from June 1-9.

An unnamed source told the Associated Press that Jackson looked pale and thin during filming, and even needed assistance descending the stage stairs.

The production reportedly featured elaborate sets including a cemetery, a large mural of Jackson wearing his ‘Thriller’ werewolf costume, a lush jungle and a construction site. A scene with scantily clad male dancers was said to have been shot on the construction site set.

The production was being filmed by music video company Stimulated Inc, who were hired to produce screen content for Jackson’s forthcoming series of concerts at London’s 02 Arena.

Coxon Drained By Reunion

Posted by audioman On June - 30 - 2009

Graham Coxon has revealed that he finds playing with Blur “physically and emotionally draining”.

The guitarist said that since they got back together, the band are more supportive and helping one another through their live shows.

He said: “A Blur concert for me has always been extremely draining emotionally and physically.”

“In the end I learned it’s the audience that get you through it. You play to the audience.”

“I was struggling through in an isolated manner. We all did. We became a massive machine and a business and the group members were the least important thing.”

“But we’re encouraging each other more now than we used to. It’s a more caring attitude among us.”

The ‘Tender’ musician says their hiatus has helped the group reconnect and strengthen their relationships.

He added: “With the pause we had in the group we realised we are important as individuals and we are friends again. We got to know each other again. It’s important we’re all having a good time.”

Jacksons ‘Not Ready’ For Funeral

Posted by audioman On June - 30 - 2009

Michael Jackson’s father has said his family will wait for the results of a second post-mortem before finalising plans for the pop star’s funeral.

Joe Jackson told reporters in Los Angeles the ceremony would have “some private” elements but “not [be] closed down all the way to the public”.

US media reported that there could be a public memorial event at Neverland.

The results of a first post-mortem will not be released for several weeks while toxicology tests are concluded.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said there was no evidence of foul play after an autopsy on Friday, but gave no cause of death.

At the BET Awards ceremony on Sunday, Mr Jackson said he had “a lot of concerns” about the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

US media reported that relatives were considering returning the body to Jackson’s Neverland Ranch in central California, about 150 miles (240 km) from Los Angeles, where is would lie in state.

California Highway Patrol officials were planning for any delays if a procession did travel there, but said they had received no formal information from the Jackson family.

On Tuesday, an all-day tribute was held for the singer at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, where Michael performed with the Jackson 5 as a child.

Family friend Al Sharpton told fans: “He’s bad, he’s our brother, he’s our friend.”

“Let’s love Michael today, let’s love Michael today, let’s love Michael today!”

As thousands queued outside, about 600 fans at a time were entering the venue to listen to Jackson’s music, watch a video tribute and leave flowers and memorabilia.

Photographs

Meanwhile, pictures of the pop star’s final rehearsal before he died have been released by concert promoter AEG Live.

Photographer Kevin Mazur, who captured Jackson’s image several times in the 1980s, told the BBC: “He was happy, he was energetic, he was full of life.”

“I had such an adrenaline rush, it was like the first time I photographed him, when he moonwalked.”

According to the legal papers filed on behalf of the family, Jackson died without a valid will.

But The Wall Street Journal reported that a will was drafted by the singer in 2002, which divided his estate between his mother, children and a number of charities.

Jackson left three children - Michael Joseph Jackson Jr, known as Prince Michael, 12, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II.

On Monday, Jackson’s mother Katherine was granted temporary guardianship of the children, pending a further hearing on 3 August to determine whether she will be granted permanent custody.

The singer’s financial affairs have been the subject of much speculation.

According to documents obtained by the Associated Press news agency, Michael Jackson claimed to have a net worth of $236m (£143m) as of 31 March 2007.

The papers said he had $567.6m (£345m) in assets, including his Neverland Ranch, his share of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalogue that includes rights to the Beatles’ songs, plus various cars, antiques and collectibles, AP reported.

Jay-Z Banned Chris Brown From BET Awards?

Posted by audioman On June - 30 - 2009

Chris Brown was reportedly cut from the BET Awards the morning of the show, despite having rehearsed for three days to perform at the event.

Brown was reportedly ditched at the request of Jay-Z, who apparently said he would not perform if Brown was on the bill at the event, which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday (June 28), reports The Source.

Chris Brown last week reached an agreement to plead guilty to charges of assaulting Rihanna.

Just before a preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on June 22, Brown reportedly struck a deal with prosecutors that requires him to do six months of “community labour” and serve five years’ probation.

Rihanna was expected to testify at the hearing about what happened the night before the Grammy Awards in February. Police records indicate that Brown beat and threatened the 21-year-old singer while they sat in a car after they left a pre-Grammy party.

LA County Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg also ordered Brown to stay at least 50 yards away from Rihanna for the next five years, except during industry events when he must maintain a distance of at lease 10 yards, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Brown is expected to do community service such as picking up trash and removing graffiti. The judge commended him for “taking responsibility” for his conduct and said that Brown will be able to serve out his sentence in Virginia, where he owns a home, rather than in Los Angeles, where the incident occurred.

Rihanna was present when the terms of the protective order were read. Afterwards, she thanked the judge. Her lawyer told reporters that she did not object to the terms of the deal.

Pixies To Play One-Off Scotland Date

Posted by audioman On June - 30 - 2009

Pixies have revealed that they will play a one-off gig in Glasgow this winter.

The four-piece will return to Scotland for the first time since their performance at the T On The Fringe show in Edinburgh in 2005.

The Glasgow show, which takes place at the SECC on October 4th, will be a unique show, with the band set to play seminal album Doolittle in its entirety before continuing their set with a “best of” selection.

It will be their only UK show apart from dates at London’s Brixton Academy on October 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th.

Dave McGeachan, promoter at DF Concerts sais: “I’m thrilled that Pixies will be returning to Scotland. They’re one of the most important bands in modern rock music, inspiring a whole host of top acts like Nirvana, Radiohead and Pearl Jam, this is a great chance for fans to see them in the flesh.”

“Doolittle is their masterpiece, and always features prominently in best-ever album lists, so the prospect seeing that played in full live is hugely exciting.”

Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday 3rd July

Tribute To Jackson At Awards Show

Posted by audioman On June - 29 - 2009

Stars have been celebrating the life of Michael Jackson in Los Angeles.

Jackson’s father Joe joined celebrities at the annual Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards show, which was hastily changed to honour the singer.

It is the first big tribute to Jackson, who collapsed and died last week in the city at the age of 50.

His family insisted a second autopsy be carried out on his body because of what they said were “unanswered questions” over how he died.

Speaking on the red carpet, Joe Jackson said he had “a lot of concerns” over events surrounding his son’s death.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has ruled out foul play but deferred giving a cause of death until the results of toxicology tests come back.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the singer had been taking a daily dose of Demerol, a painkiller also widely known as pethidine.

On Saturday police carried out what they said was an extensive interview with Jackson’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, who was with the singer when he died.

A spokeswoman for Dr Murray said he was not a suspect in the case. He had “helped identify the circumstances around the death of the pop icon and clarified some inconsistencies”, she said.

‘Celebrate this man’

The BET awards show was turned into a tribute to Jackson, with major stars re-working their performances in honour of the singer.

A Jackson 5 medley was performed and host Jamie Foxx attempted the Moonwalk.

“No need to be sad. We want to celebrate this black man … We gonna go through all of Michael Jackson,” he said.

Winners praised Jackson as they received their awards.

“We all know none of us in this in this room wouldn’t be here for Michael Jackson,” said Lil Wayne, named best male hip-hop star.

Late in the show Jackson’s sister Janet took the stage to thank fans for their support.

“My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful, so they elected me to be here,” she said.

Demand for Jackson’s music has surged since his death on Thursday, with the star dominating sales at music retailers and download sites across the world.

On Sunday his songs topped Apple’s iTunes download charts in every country except Japan.

In the UK Jackson scored a posthumous number one album with greatest hits compilation Number Ones, with four other albums reappearing in the top 20.

In the singles chart, 43 out of the top 200 singles featured the singer, with Jackson hits accounting for all but one of the new entries in the top 40.

Blur Close Glastonbury 2009 In Epic Fashion

Posted by audioman On June - 29 - 2009

Blur have closed 2009’s Glastonbury festival in spectacular fashion tonight (June 28) with a career-spanning set.

Topping the bill on the Pyramid Stage on the final night of this year’s event, frontman Damon Albarn greeted the crowd as they kicked the set off with their first single ‘She’s So High’.

“Wow, there’s a lot of people here!” shouted the singer as he surveyed one of the weekend’s biggest crowds, before the band powered into ‘Girls And Boys’.

“I came here yesterday really early in the morning, it seems like there’s a positive atmosphere,” Albarn then declared ahead of ‘There’s No Other Way’, before cryptically adding, “That’s what I want to say about something else, let’s keep it positive!”

With the set following a similar pattern to the band’s recent intimate warm-up shows, the band seemed to have no problem with the radical increase in scale.

They were joined by extra musicians, including brass and backing singers, at various points throughout the set, with ‘13′ album tracks ‘Trimm Trabb’ and ‘Tender’ particularly benefiting from the enhanced arrangements, the latter ending in touching crowd singalong.

“I’m enjoying this,” declared Albarn midway through the set. “Thank you!”

The feeling was clearly mutual, with the crowd singing along to practically ever song, although Number One single ‘Country House’ drew especially loud applause from the crowd.

A trio of tracks from second album ‘Modern Life Is Rubbish’ followed, in the form of ‘Oily Water’, ‘Chemical World’ and ‘Sunday Sunday’, before the band welcomed a special guest to the stage.

Actor Phil Daniels emerged onstage offering Glastonbury “a bit of ‘Parklife’”.

‘End Of A Century’ and ‘To The End’ followed, before the band ended their main set with a stunning version of ‘This Is A Low’.

The band briefly left the stage, before returning to kick off their encore with ‘Popscene’.

“I’m pleased we decided to do these gigs now,” quipped Albarn as Blur launched into a raucous version of the former single.

Keeping the pace up, ‘Advert’ and ‘Song 2′ saw the whole field go wild.

Again they left the stage, leaving the crowd to sing the refrain from ‘Tender’ in their absence, until the band returned, starting their second encore with the soulful ‘For Tomorrow’

“This is the fourth time we’ve played here,” said Albarn ahead of the song. “It’s really, really fantastic!”

The band then rounded off action on the Pyramid Stage with an epic version of ‘The Universal’ that had the whole field singing along.

“Take care, goodnight,” Albarn told the crowd as he and his bandmates left the stage for the final time.

Blur played:

‘She’s So High’
‘Girls And Boys’
‘Tracy Jacks’
‘There’s No Other Way’
‘Jubilee’
‘Badhead’
‘Beetlebum’
